The 5-Step Marketing Starter Kit for Busy Entrepreneurs

Updated: Jun 6

Go From Zero to Leads

A Sneak Peek into the Small Business Marketing Jumpstart Plan

Are you a small business owner struggling to gain traction online? Or perhaps you’re tired of trying random marketing tips that yield little to no results. If so, this simple 5-step starter kit is designed just for you.

This kit is based on the exact system I use with my 1:1 clients to help them transition from confusion to consistent leads—without spending a dime on ads or hiring a full team.

Use this guide as a quick start. When you’re ready, I’ll show you how to implement the complete Jumpstart Plan tailored specifically to your business.

But let’s be clear. This is just a starting point. It’s not the whole answer, nor is it a quick fix. In today's world, guarantees are hard to come by. Marketing isn’t difficult, but it involves a combination of art, skill, determination, consistency, and grit. It’s not just sales or advertising; it’s digital marketing.

Most of us don’t fully understand it. That’s perfectly fine. You don’t need to obtain a degree, spend endless hours trying to master it, or throw thousands of dollars at a "professional" agency. Often, you'll find someone in their twenties who knows a bit about social media but nothing about your unique business.

I understand that’s frustrating, unproductive, and unnecessary.

So let’s focus on what is necessary. We’ll concentrate on five key elements. That’s it—just five. It’s not a quick fix, but if you disregard these five things, nothing will work.

Step 1: Clarify Your Customer

You can’t market to everyone. Identifying one clear audience is essential.

Who is Your Ideal Customer?

  • What’s their biggest pain point?

  • What result are they looking for?

  • Where do they currently spend time online?

🎯 Quick Action: Fill in this sentence:

“I help [specific person] go from [pain point] to [desired result] by [your method].”

Investing more time in this area is crucial. I encourage my clients to envision their customer avatar completely. Give them a name, a job, a salary, a family, even a favorite breakfast food.

Step 2: Nail Your Message

Your marketing needs one powerful message that speaks directly to your audience’s struggles and captures their attention.

Try This Formula:

“You know how [pain]? I help [target audience] get [result] without [thing they hate].”

🎯 Quick Action: Write your version and test it in your Instagram bio, email signature, or LinkedIn headline.

This part is often the hardest to get right. Here’s my advice: don’t try to be fancy; just be clear. Clearly communicate what you do and how you’ll help solve their problem.

Imagine you're in a bar, at the checkout line in Target, or in a hotel elevator. If someone asks what you do, what can you say in about 10 seconds to make them say, “Ah, cool”? That’s your message and tagline.

Step 3: Map Your Offer

Make your offer crystal clear. What are your clients getting, and how will it transform their lives?

Answer These Questions:

  • What problem does this solve?

  • What result do they walk away with?

  • Why is now the right time?

🎯 Quick Action: Write one sentence for each question. This can serve as your sales page or pitch outline.

I often see resistance here. Many think that clarity of audience and messaging is enough to attract customers. While it may have worked in the past, the reality today is different. You need an offer that makes potential customers smile because their problem is about to be solved. Yes, it might feel salesy, but that's okay. Sales are a natural part of business. Just avoid being sleazy.

Step 4: Simplify Your Funnel

Forget about 20-step processes. You just need three simple steps:

  1. Lead Magnet (free value upfront)

  2. Email Nurture (3–5 simple emails to build trust)

  3. Offer (a clear invitation to buy or book)

🎯 Quick Action: What freebie could you provide that resolves one specific pain? Examples include checklists, cheat sheets, templates, or mini-courses.

Most people fall off at this stage. This is where the real work begins. The earlier steps are fun, filled with vision and hope. Let’s be clear once more: this is not a magic formula. It requires time, patience, and perseverance. So, keep pushing.

Step 5: Create Simple Content

You don’t need to go viral; you need to be clear and consistent.

Use These 3 Prompt Types to Establish Trust:

  1. Value: Teach one thing they care about.

  2. Story: Share how you overcame a challenge they face.

  3. Offer: Invite them to take the next step.

🎯 Quick Action: Schedule one post for each type this week.

Ignore anyone who claims you need to go viral. They are mistaken and misguiding the marketing profession. No one who has ever gone viral has built a sustainable business.
